LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU NEED FROM YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER


I've got a little list here of 6 questions you need to ask yourself before signing that contract with your wedding photographer! Not everyone is looking for the same thing, so here's some ideas to help you examine if the photographers you're considering are the right pick for you. Hot tip: a lot of these can apply to your other vendors too!

1. do YOU GET ALONG?


One of the most important things to consider when choosing your wedding photographer is whether you actually like them. You're potentially spending more time with them than your actual spouse at your wedding (aka one of the most important days of your life), so make it someone you trust and know you'll have a good time with.

2. do you love their photography style?


Do you want candid, documentary-style photos or more posed editorial shots? What ratio of silly to serious? Are details important to you? Does the content of your potential photographers gallery match what you'd want to see in your own?

and, 3. do you love their editing?


Light and airy, dark and moody, true to life, warm or cool, or somewhere in between? Consider how these tones will look in your space if you decide to hang prints, how the colors might effect your skin tone, and even how it might alter the colors you picked for your wedding! For example, edits that lean really warm can make cool tones look more washed out, and vice versa.

4. does the price match the value?


Along with quality of work and intensity of customer focus, think about what level of experience you'd like your photographer to have. What are they bringing to the table? Do you need everything they're offering, or maybe you're looking for more? The price of the service should match the value.

5. have you considered other options?


Taking the time to shop around is really going to help you answer a lot of the questions in this post. You don't know what's out there if you don't spend a little time poking around the market. Your wedding is a once in a lifetime event and no one will begrudge you making sure you're choosing the right fit for you (unless of course they're a bit of a weenie, in which case you've dodged a bullet anyway).

lastly, 6. have they answered all your questions?


Try to find someone who takes time to answer any questions you might have and build the trust you need. The last thing someone planning a wedding should be dealing with is more stress!

(But, do keep in mind that vendors get countless inquiries and wont be available 100% of the time. Have your questions ready to go during your consultation so everything can be addressed all at once!)
